FROM THE DISCOVERY OF O. I. LEIPUNSKY TO THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE CREATORS OF UKRAINIAN DIAMONDS

Abstract

The history of diamond synthesis is highlighted and the basic achievements of the Bakul Institute for Superhard Materials (ISM) of NAS of Ukraine in the field of synthesis and sintering of superhard materials at extreme high temperatures and pressures are presented. The scientific directions, on which the scientific school of the ISM operates, the basic scientific results received by the Institute's staff, and prospects of the industry for obtaining new superhard materials on the basis of diamond are given.
