Abstract

To develop thermo- and heat-resistant binders necessary for making of composite materials intended for operation in extreme conditions, it is worth accelerating the curing process of cyanide resins. Phthalonitrile prepolymers were developed by preliminary modification of phthalonitrile monomers with short-chain aromatic oligoimides with terminal hydroxyl groups and their ability to polymerize under conditions corresponding to the appropriate technological parameters for producing composite materials using these binders was investigated. The peculiarities of the curing mechanism were revealed and it was shown that the polymerization of phthalimides can be accelerated by introducing a modifying agent with high catalytic activity and a large number of active hydrogen atoms, and the triazine and isoindole structures formed as a result of the curing reaction allow introducing more nitrile groups into the polymerization reaction.
